Esmari du Plessis completed her BSc (Physiology and Zoology) degree at the North-West University in 2009 and was awarded with a membership to the Golden Key International Honour Society. She then completed her BSc Honours in Cell Biology at the University of Pretoria.
During this time, Esmari had an honorary appointment at the Reproductive Biology Unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital (RBL SBAH). For her Honours, she did research on sperm processing methods using a novel tube insert and the yield it produced.
In 2011 she received a Merck Serono bursary to enrol as a Medical Scientist Intern at RBL SBAH in collaboration with the Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA). After 15 months of training at RBL SBAH, Esmari transferred to Medfem Fertility Clinic where she qualified as a Medical Biological Scientist in 2013, she is currently registered as such in the field of Reproductive Biology with the HPSCA.
