The primary success rate in each category is represented by the percentage of clinical pregnancies per embryo transfer procedure (CPR/ET). The clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) is defined by ultrasound identification of a gestational (pregnancy) sac within the uterine cavity and with a visible foetal heartbeat. However, CPRs may not correspond with live birth rates (LBRs), as some patients may miscarry.

Most of all IVF transfers at Medfem Fertility Clinic are done on Day 5 after egg retrieval. This allows the longest time for self-selection of the best embryos that are most likely to succeed.

• At Medfem Fertility Clinic we provide every patient with an objective and thorough overview of their fertility situation. This includes a review of each treatment’s success statistics, time frame and risks associated with given procedures. It is important to us that every decision and treatment choice be well informed.
• In developing a treatment plan, our patients and specialists work as a team, carefully reviewing goals, diagnosis and expected outcome.
• While a patient may face a low chance of success according to historical fertility treatment statistics, we believe that the decision to proceed with a given treatment is an individual one, and we will not interfere with a patient’s decision or turn that patient away. Some clinics may discourage treatment for patients with a challenging diagnosis to maintain high pregnancy results. At Medfem Fertility Clinic, we do not believe in this practice. However, we do believe in providing, to the best of our ability, the greatest possible care and the most honest assessment and advice to help decide on that course of care.
• When determining the maximum number of embryos to transfer, Medfem Fertility Clinic adheres to guidelines set by the Southern African Society of Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecological Endoscopy (SASREG). This practice helps us to lower the risk of twins and ‘high order multiples’ (three or more offspring in one birth), which can lead to such complications as pre-term labour, low birth weight, foetal stress and maternal health symptoms.
