After 2 years of trying naturally for a baby and being unsuccessful we decided to seek some professional advice. We were recommended by a friend to book an appointment at Medfem. We made our appointment for February 2014 and we were lucky enough to meet Dr Rodrigues.
From the moment we walked through the doors of Medfem we were astounded by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. From the security outside to the Doctors themselves. After meeting Dr Rodrigues we immediately knew we were in the very best hands.
Both my husband and I have never had any issues and after doing all the routine blood tests etc. everything looked fine. Dr Rodrigues advised that we should look further and suggested we go for a Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy, which we did in March 2014. After having surgery we were advised that I had Stage 2 Endometriosis in my ovaries.
We were given the opportunity to try naturally again for 4 months. We were very hopeful of falling pregnant as we thought that it was definitely the Endometriosis that was the issue. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and in August 2014, we started our first round of IVF! What an adventure it was! Dr Rodrigues and Hanlie guided us through the whole process and we felt every ounce of their support throughout.
We were unfortunately unsuccessful on the first round. Out of the 7 eggs retrieved we had 4 that fertilised. We were rather hopeful that we could freeze, but we were not able to. This means we would have to begin on our second adventure!
We started with the Long Protocol in October 2014. I became quite despondent after retrieval as we managed to get 13 eggs out but only 3 fertilised (2 on the first day) 1 was a bit late. I wrote the round off immediately and was not very hopeful at all. To this day… I remember Dr Rodrigues’s words which at the time I just heard but never really listened. He said! It is QUALITY over QUANTITY and remember it only takes 1 EGG! Well, he was right…. On the 14th of November 2014, we walked into Medfem, nervous and very hopeful. We sat downstairs awaiting the answer we had hoped for, for so long! I remember saying to my husband that we can’t be this lucky can we? Well we were! We got a big fat POSITIVE!!!!
As of today, our little girl MIA LEE BOTHMA is the light of our lives. She is 1 years old and we could not have asked for a more perfect child!
We could not thank Dr Rodrigues, Hanlie and every single staff member at Medfem enough.
We will be forever grateful for helping us in every way possible and for showing us so much compassion and support 100% of the time.
