The Cost – and Value – of a Fertility Consultation
There is a cost associated with a fertility consultation, as there is with all other specialist consultations. However, this amount does not truly reflect the value of the outcome of a specialist consultation: an accurate diagnosis – and the time, effort and cost – and disappointment – it can save in the future.
Overcoming fertility challenges is a journey and it can be a challenging journey – physically, emotionally and financially.
The only one way to ensure that you are investing your resources – physically, emotionally and financially – in the best possible way is to rely on expert, experienced opinion backed by advanced technology and equipment – so you know exactly what is causing your specific fertility problem and which fertility treatment is the best option for you.
Without this initial fertility consultation with a specialist in fertility, you risk investing in treatments, procedures and options that may not give you the best chances of falling pregnant.
In this article we look at what exactly a fertility consultation is, what happens during your fertility consultation, what the cost of a fertility consultation is and – more importantly – what the value is of having a fertility consultation. We also find out just how quick and easy it is to set up a fertility consultation with a specialist team.
What is a fertility consultation?
A fertility consultation is perhaps the single most important step on your fertility journey, and should also be the first step. Reaching a diagnosis is critical to subsequent treatment success, and as such this consultation is a very important first step in your treatment.
Far more than a doctor’s appointment, a fertility consultation with one of our specialists at Medfem is an opportunity to pinpoint the exact of your unique fertility challenges by tapping into the substantial expertise and extensive experience of our team, as well as our advanced techniques, state-of-the-art equipment and custom-designed facilities.
What happens during a fertility consultation?
At Medfem Fertility Clinic, you can expect highly competent and compassionate care from everyone on our team.
During your initial fertility consultation, you and your partner will spend between 30 minutes and 1 hour with one of our fertility specialists.
This first visit is dedicated to an extensive review of your medical history, a comprehensive infertility work up and in depth explanations and answers to all your questions.
It will be important for your specialist to know such aspects as how long you have been trying to conceive, your cycle regularity, fluctuations in weight, previous abdominal surgeries, or a history of hereditary disease. Your fertility specialist will also determine whether the infertility is of male or female cause, and of what duration.
At this fertility consultation, you can expect your fertility specialist to:
- Take a detailed history
- Review any previous tests you may have had
- Do a physical exam
- Conduct female blood tests
- Order additional testing
- Examine a broad range of fertility treatment options with you, to develop a personalised fertility treatment plan that fits you best
- Answer any questions or concerns that you may have
The evaluation of a couple encompasses the following:
- Blood tests are necessary to measure hormone levels: FSH, for example, will provide an indication of ovarian function, while the measurement of Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) will provide an evaluation of ovarian reserve.
- Evaluation of ovulation and hormonal assessment of egg quality: This is conducted by a blood test which allows us to maximise a woman’s ovulation and the quality of eggs involved with fertility treatments.
- Detailed assessment of all sperm parameters: This includes sperm quality, concentration, motility, forward progression, morphology (shape), and the absence or presence of antisperm antibodies.
- Evaluation of uterine health: This evaluation is made to allow for successful implantation of an embryo and continued growth and delivery of a healthy baby. Pelvic ultrasounds are a routine part of the quality care rendered at Medfem Fertility Clinic and, when combined with other diagnostic procedures, provide insight into optimal embryo implantation and pregnancy.
What does a fertility consultation cost?
